Resort Life to introduce additional flights from Russian region

Leading local travel agent, Resort Life has partnered with a Russian company to operate flights between the Russian region and the Maldives.

In a ceremony held in Moscow, the agreement was signed on behalf of Resort Life by the company's Managing Director, Mohamed Shaaz Waleed. Maldives' Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, Thoyyib Mohamed took part in the event.

Speaking to AVAS from Moscow, Waleed said the agreement would increase the number of flights that fly to the Maldives, which would in turn flourish the tourism sector.

'Our hope is to commence operation of one airline next month, and to introduce two additional airlines during November and December,' said Waleed. He thanked the government for its support and cooperation in introducing the operations.

In addition to partnering with a Russian company to operate additional flights, Resort Life has also registered a business in Russia under the name 'Resort Holiday'. A company office has been set up in Russia, and the company will work towards selling Maldivian holidays to the Russian region as well as to the rest of Europe.

Russia is one of the top source markets for tourist arrivals in the Maldives. An increase of 190 percent has been recorded in tourist arrivals from Russia thus far this year.

After the Maldives reopened its borders to tourists in July 2020, Resort Life has arranged four charter flights to the Maldives. Two of these flights still fly between the regions. Resort Life has contributed heavily during the COVID-19 pandemic to boost the tourism industry.
