Exports increase by 8 percent

The Maldives' exports have increased over the last month.

Maldives Customs Service's most recent statistics show goods worth MVR 219 million were exported from the Maldives in July. This is an 8 percent increase compared to July 2020. Goods worth MVR 203 million were exported during the same period last year.

According to customs, the largest amount of goods were exported to Thailand, which is equivalent to 37 percent of exports. 16 percent of goods were exported to Germany.

The percentage of imports also increased in July compared to the same period last year. While goods worth MVR 2.8 billion were imported this July, this is a 48 percent increase compared to July 2020. Goods worth MVR 1.9 billion were imported in July last year.

However, the revenue generated through import and export fell this July compared to the previous year. While a revenue of MVR 293 million was generated in July 2020, the revenue generated this July was MVR 293 million, a 17 percent decline from last year.
