World Tourism Day celebrations will be held in Addu City this year, the Tourism Ministry has said.
Senior Policy Director at Tourism Ministry, Ibrahim Faruhad said several events will be held to celebrate World Tourism Day marked on September 27. This year's events will be held in southernmost Addu City, he said. The ministry hopes to conduct an event in every islands of Addu City despite budgetary concerns.
Events have been scheduled as follows:
27 September: Marathon
28 September: Photo Competition
28 September: Island crossing
29 September: Beach cleanup
30 September: Water sports carnival
01 October: FOB Fair
02 October: Children's Festival
03 October: Traditional activities
04 October: Tourist mapping
World Tourism Day was not celebrated in the Maldives last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
