Regional Commanders appointed to five police divisions

Regional Commanders have been appointed to five regional divisions of Maldives Police Service.

A ceremony was held Monday at Iskandhar Building where Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed presented the newly appointed commanders their letters of appointment. Home Minister Imran Abdulla, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannan Yusuf, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed and other executive officers of MPS attended the ceremony.

Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Shiham was appointed as the Regional Commander for the Upper North Police while Chief Superintendent of Police Moosa Ali was appointed to the North Police Division. Chied Superintendent of Police Abdulla Saheeh was appointed to North Central and Chief Superintendent Hussain Rasheed will head the South Central Division. Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shameem will be heading the South Division.

The Police Service Act promotes professional standards within the police force and paves the way for the establishment of community-based policing services under a decentralised system of governance. The police services have been divided into six divisions, with Male', Hulhumale, Hulhule', Villimale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu in the Greater Male' Region as capital police division.
