The Bangladeshi government has requested the Maldives to register and regularize illegal Bangladeshi expatriates in the Maldives. The request was made on behalf of the Bangladeshi government by its Foreign Minister, Dr. A.K Abdul Momen, during a meeting with Maldives Vice President Faisal Naseem.

During the meeting, the Vice President and Minister further discussed strengthening the people-to-people and government-to-government connections between the two nations. Highlighting the large number of registered foreign workers in the Maldives from Bangladesh, the Foreign Minister also requested the assistance of the Maldivian government to register and regularise any unregistered Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the country.

Vice President Faisal is visiting Bangladesh on an official trip, and he will conclude his trip and return to the Maldives on 24 November 2021. He is accompanied on this trip by a delegation of cabinet ministers and high-level officials from the President’s Office and the government.
