The police have said three suspects have been arrested in relation to the drug operations conducted by the police over the past four days.
The police carried out the operation from December 12 to 14 in capital Male' and reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale'. During the operation, 119 kg of drugs were recovered. The police said a 51-year-old local male, a 25-year-old local male, and a 29-year-old local male were arrested in the operation.
The police said three houses in Male,' a house in Hulhumale', a taxi, a private car, and three motorcycles were searched during the operation.
When the taxi was stopped and searched in Hulhumale' on December 12, a large number of drugs were found, and two people were arrested. On December 13, drugs were found in the under-seat storage of a motorcycle, the police said.
An additional arrest was made on December 14, and a private car was searched in Hulhumale'. A large quantity of drugs was found in the vehicle.
The court has remanded the 51-year old and 25-year-old suspect into custody for 15 days. The 29-year-old was first remanded for one day, and the period was later extended to 14 days.
The police continue to investigate the case.
