Kurendhoo Council Presidency by-election to be held in March

The by-election to elect Lh. Kurendhoo's Council President will be held on March 26, the Elections Commission has said.

Kurendhoo Council President, Ibrahim Shimau, resigned from the post last month. The Elections Commission said a by-election would be held on March 26 from 8 am until 3 pm to replace Shimau. Those interested in contesting for the position must submit candidacy papers by February 24.

The Elections Commission said the votes would be counted 30 minutes after voting ends. The final result will be announced on March 28, Monday.

The entire Kurendhoo Council is made up of members from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). All five members of the island's Women's Development Committee are also from MDP.

In addition to the Kurendhoo by-election, by-elections for F. Nlandhoo and Dh. Meedhoo's Women's Development Committee will also be held on March 26.
