Former HC Judge Sameer appointed as Deputy Prosecutor

Former High Court judge Ali Sameer has been appointed as the Deputy Prosecutor General.

The Prosecutor General's Act empowers the Prosecutor General to appoint two Deputy Prosecutors General.

Ali Sameer resigned as High Court judge on April 17. Although he did not disclose the reason for his resignation, his resignation came while the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) was investigating a case against him.

Sameer served as a High Court judge from March 26, 2011, to April 17, 2022.

Samir holds a degree in Sharia and Law from Al-Azhar University in Egypt and a Master's degree in Comparative Law from the International Islamic University in Malaysia.

Sameer has held positions including Secretary of the Criminal Court, Senior Admin Officer of the Civil Court, Judge of the Civil Court, Chief Judge of the Civil Court and Chief Judge of the Civil Court. Sameer was also the High Court representative on the JSC.
