No complaints that could change outcome of election: MDP

The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said no complaints that could change the result of its internal elections were filed with its Election Committee.

Speaking to AVAS on Monday, MDP's Election Committee Chair Ibrahim Manik said the committee received some complaints regarding its internal elections held Saturday. However, after reviewing the complaints, the committee found no complaints that would change the outcome of the election, he said.

"There were some complaints, but the election went well," Manik said.

Manik said the provisional results would be announced on Monday and that the final results would be announced within seven days from the date of the election.

The party elected its Chairperson, Women's Wing President, and Youth Wing President in Saturday's election. Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail won the Chairperson post, defeating his opponent, Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, by a large margin. Fayyaz received 58 percent of the vote, while Imthiyaz received 42 percent of the vote. Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam was elected as the President of the Women's Wing.
