MTCC brings in mini buses to commence service in Male' City

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has brought 36 mini buses to start mini bus services in Male' City.

MTCC said the buses to be used for the service had arrived in the Maldives. Photos released by the company show a vessel carrying a large number of buses. The company said it had 36 mini buses on board.

MTCC has previously brought in another shipment of mini buses.

MTCC's CEO Adam Azim said the mini bus service would start around the 31st of this month. The mini buses will be operated in the city and in Laamu atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City.

The launch of mini bus services in the city is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential pledges to be completed within 100 days of taking office. However, the agreement to start mini bus service in Male' was signed between MTCC and the Ministry of Transport in 2019. According to Transport Minister Aishath Nahla, the pledge could not be fulfilled on schedule due to lack of funds.
