Prison officers begin using body-worn cameras

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS)'s frontline officers have started using body-worn cameras.

The introduction of body-worn cameras will make prison officers more responsible and accountable, MCS said. The body-worn camera will ensure the safety of inmates and prison officers, they added.

According to MSC, while body-worn cameras will be used in operations conducted by corrections officers inside jails, the cameras will make investigating incidents that occur within jail premises easier.

US company Axon's body-worn cameras were deployed to prison officers on a trial basis on February 17, under an agreement with the company's local distributor, Zeta Technologies. Body-worn cameras will be used permanently in the future, MCS said.
