Musthafa appointed as Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice

An Ombudsperson has been appointed to the Office of the Ombudsperson of Transitional Justice.

The post became vacant when the former Ombudsperson, Mariyam Laiza, resigned from the post last Tuesday. Musthafa Hameed from Kaneerumaage, R. Angolhitheem, has been appointed in her place.

Mustafa was most recently an investigator in the Office of the Ombudsman for Transitional Justice. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Sharia and Law from the Islamic University of Maldives. He is currently studying for a master's degree at the university.

Ombudspersons are appointed to the Office of the Ombudsperson of Transitional Justice by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. In addition to Musthafa, the position is currently held by Jihada Anees.

The Office of the Ombudsman for Transitional Justice was created by Presidential Decree on December 17, 2020, to investigate and seek justice for human rights violations committed by a government agency or its officials from the time of President Mohamed Ameen to the time of President Abdulla Yameen. The Chief Ombudsman of the office is Abdul Salam Arif.
