Pres Solih meets with MDP National Assembly members

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday met with the National Assembly members of his party, the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The meeting was held at the Shine Tree Building, where Salt Cafe' is located. During the meeting, President Solih said he had decided to run for a second term in office and asked the members for their support.

The meeting was held behind closed doors and was attended by about 100 members of the MDP National Assembly, according to an MDP MP who spoke to AVAS. A large number of MDP MPs, cabinet ministers, and senior MDP officials attended the meeting. Most members who attended the meeting assured that they would be with President Solih, the source said.

The MDP presidential primary is scheduled to be held on January 28, 2023. Those interested in contesting the primary must submit their forms with the support of 500 party members before 4:00 pm on December 24.

While MDP's Presidential Primary is a month away, Parliament Speaker and MDP President Mohamed Nasheed has also announced that he will contest the party primary.

According to the MDP's presidential primary timeline, the final list of candidates will be announced on December 26. The list of eligible voters for the presidential primary will be publicized and opened for complaints on December 28. The deadline for submitting complaints is by 4:00 pm on December 31.

The final voters' list will be announced on January 3. Candidate representatives can submit the relevant application between January 10 and January 15.
