Over 15 kg of drugs seized in first three months

Over 15 kg of illicit substances have been confiscated over the past three months.

According to the latest statistics released by the police, cannabis accounted for the largest portion of the seizures, weighing in at 8.9 kg. The second highest amount seized was 3.1 kg of cocaine. Additionally, 2.2 kg of heroin and 2.2 kg of other drugs were confiscated during this period.

Out of the 1,154 cases reported to the police during the first three months, a total of 461 cases were classified as drug-related. While 331 individuals were arrested in connection with drug offenses, 69 cases were forwarded to the Prosecutor General's office for prosecution. Notably, 77 cases have already been concluded and filed.

Among the 331 individuals apprehended, 314 were local residents, while 17 were foreigners. These arrests comprised 315 men and 16 women.

From among the cities, Male' City reported the highest number of drug cases during this period, with 268 cases recorded. Additionally, Kulhudhuffushi reported 19 cases, Addu City reported 18 cases, and Fuvahmulah reported 17 cases.

In terms of geographic distribution, the highest number of drug cases during the first quarter were reported in the southernmost atolls, namely Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah, and Addu, accounting for a total of 57 cases. Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls collectively reported 40 cases, while Noonu, Raa, Baa, and Lhaviyani atolls together reported an equal number of cases.
