VIA's flight movements rise by five percent

Flight movements recorded at the Maldives' main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) have increased by five percent as of the end of October.

The central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reported that international flight movements rose from 13,018 in 2023 to 13,671 in 2024.

Scheduled flights accounted for the majority, with 12,565 movements, while charter and private flights contributed 1,106 movements.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 43 airlines currently operate to the Maldives, including direct flights from eight top source markets for Maldives tourism. The Maldives is set to achieve its target of hosting 2 million tourists this year by December 25.
