MDP to expand protests nationwide

The opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced plans to expand its protests nationwide.

MDP has organized serial protests, expressing concern over the lack of development projects undertaken by the current government during its first year in office. The party also alleged that legislations passed by the ruling party-dominated Parliament has caused significant disruption to daily life.

The decision to expand the protests was formalized in a resolution passed at a MDP National Assembly meeting held prior to the ‘In Defense of the Constitution’ rally held Tuesday night at Male’ Carnival area.

The resolution calls for support from political parties, civil societies and any other group or individual that wishes to join the cause. However, MDP has not yet specified when the protests will begin across the country.
