The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a White Alert covering a large area across the Maldives due to adverse weather conditions.
The White Alert has been issued for the area between Haa Alifu Atoll and Thaa Atoll, and will be in effect from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Heavy rain is expected for these areas, with winds ranging between 18 to 24 mph. Rough seas and gusts of up to 45 mph is expected during showers.
The MET Office said waves in the northern atolls are expected to reach heights between 3 to 5 ft, and 5 to 8 ft in central and southern atolls.
The Maldives experienced heavy rainfall over the last 24hours, with most rainfall recorded in the capital, Male’ City. Between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm on Friday, 136.5mm of rain was recorded in the city.
