Significant changes brought to judicial system: President

President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that significant changes had been brought to the judicial justice system in the past two and a half years and as a result the system has become more robust.

In his address to the nation on the occasion of the independence day, President Yameen said the current state administration system allowed Courts and the entire judicial justice system to function free from influence. He said the State’s approach to developing the judicial justice system was to provide all required resources.

He pledged to create a legal system to protect businesses and investments, adding that an arbitration aspect will be introduced to the system. He said the state will provide assistance in expediting cases. President Yameen also said the state will be seeking the expert legal opinion of international judges and experts in the field.

“In the past two and half years, the state had brought in many beneficial changes to the judiciary and judicial justice system,” the President said.

President Yameen said under his tenure a more modern penal code and a criminal procedure law were introduced. Additionally, he remarked that two branches of the High Court were opened in the north and the south of the country.
