President Abdullah Yameen has stated that nine resorts will be opened this year, in addition to the four that began operation this year.
In his message on the occasion of World Tourism Day, President Yameen said the Government had initiated many reforms for the development of the sector. He said the Government had a view to share the profits of the sector to all. Noting the importance of development of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), President Yameen said the land reclamation for this project had been started on 25 July.
President said once completed the airport will cater to 7.5 million passengers annually.
President Yameen noted the importance of setting an example for sustainable tourism and tourism development, adding that unity was key to maintaining and developing the sector.
