Govt to launch campaign to revive Islamic, national spirit

Government on Wednesday announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign designed to revive national and Islamic spirit in the Maldives.

The three year initiative would especially target students and young people throughout the archipelago.

During a press conference held by the ministerial team to lead the campaign, defence minister Adam Shareef Umar said the government would hold a colourful ceremony on March 1 to officially kick-start the campaign.

According to the minister the campaign would aim to educate the present generation on the sacrifices and lessons from past national heroes.

"Primarily we would be looking to conduct workshops, design posters, essay writing and other such multimedia projects among students and young people," minister explained.

Shareef also insisted that the initiative would not be politicized and would rather be conducted as a socially beneficial campaign.

Education minister Dr Aishath Shiham said the campaign would be designed in a way to encourage interaction from the younger generation.
