Court probes threat against prosecution lawyer

Criminal Court is looking into threats made against a prosecution lawyer inside the courtroom on Tuesday by two defendants.

The two defendants were on trial facing charges for robbery when the incident occurred, and they had threatened the prosecution lawyer as the judge was leaving the courtroom.

The lawyer at the receiving end of the threat commented that the two men were incensed when the prosecution requested the court to call in more witnesses.

"They were really furious, they threatened me as the judge was leaving the courtroom," the lawyer said.

The Prosecutor General's office has brought the issue to the attention of the Criminal Court, and the court is currently looking into the matter. No measures have been taken regarding this incident thus far.

If a lawyer, judge or court officer is threatened within the premises of the court, the guilty party can be convicted immediately.
