Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced two Indians to life in prison and fined MVR100,000 after the pair were convicted of smuggling 10kg drugs into the Maldives.
The pair identified as Silvai Prithipaan and Maria Anthony Christopher were charged with smuggling drugs on a vessel named Silver Cloud in 2012.
Prithpaan had confessed to the charges while Maria was convicted based on prosecution witness testimonies.
Two other Indians were also charged in the case, but they were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
