Mother, baby critical after C-section, hospital says

A woman reportedly positive for the H1N1 who underwent an emergency Caesarian section is weak while her baby remains critical, state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said Wednesday.

The woman was reportedly airlifted from Haa Dhaal Atoll Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated. Though the authorities are yet to confirm if she was positive for swine flu, the woman had undergone emergency C-section premature late Tuesday. She was reportedly just five months pregnant.

IGMH said both the mother and baby are in intensive care and remain critical.

Another pregnant woman now confirmed to be positive for H1N1 is also being treated at IGMH.

The spread of swine flu has reached serious proportions, especially in the capital with over 500 people getting checkups at the flu clinic in the past two days.
HPA has declared the spread as an epidemic and urged the public for caution.

Health ministry has also launched a flu clinic in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale but has urged the public to seek home remedies unless the symptoms become too severe.
