'Let her rest' pleads Maldives vogue model’s mother

Mother of Maldives vogue model and student Raudha Athif , Aminath Muharrimath has pleaded for the public not to speculate on her daughter’s death.

Raudha was found dead at her dormitory on March 29. Despite Bangladesh police initially ruling her death as suicide, her family had continued to insist that they have facts to support their claim that Raudha was murdered.

The continued claims of foul play had sparked intense speculation over her death.

Muharrimath told media that though the death of her daughter remains a controversial matter on public and social media, the news was heartrending to the family and that further speculation of the matter was distressful to her and the rest of the family as seeing the posts and articles only make them reminisce.

“Losing Raudha was the hardest thing we have had to deal with. The 20 years I spent raising her will remain the happiest of my life. She was a kind girl, caring towards everyone. She coloured our future bright with her aspirations, but she is gone now and no further speculation or investigation will bring her back to me. She is no more, let her rest. As her mother, I ask from you as I asked from her father to please let her be. There is no reason for further investigation or speculation. There will be a day when she gets justice. Don’t make this harder for the people left behind.” said Muharrimath.

“The only reason I reported of the Kashmiri girl, Seerat, mixing sleeping pills with her juice, was because it was information that she had shared with me. I had no intention of accusing Seerat for my daughter’s death as she was one of her closest friends” explained Muharrimath.

Muharrimath also requested for silence on the matter from the public as a way of paying respect to the deceased, adding that she is hopeful her daughter can rest in ease.

Rajshahi's Metropolitan Magistrate court, on Tuesday, passed the order to exhume the body of Maldives student and model Raudha Athif for a second autopsy in a bid to answer lingering question marks over her death.
