Maldives Stock Exchange mourns blogger's murder

Maldives Stock Exchange, on Sunday, announced that they will be closing its office in mourning the tragic loss of its employee and renowned local blogger Yameen Rasheed. Yameen was employed as an IT professional by the sector.

Issuing a statement to the press, Maldives Stock Exchange revealed Yameen was working on an online portal to be launched by Maldives Security Depository which is also owned by the sector. The statement mentioned Yameen as an outstanding employee, who was dearly loved by all his colleagues.

Yameen Rasheed was found stabbed to death in the stairwell of a house in the capital Male around 3:00 AM on Sunday. He was rushed to state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police had reported a total of 14 stab wounds on the victim’s body. The motive for the attack still remains unclear.

According to a family member, the victim renowned for his strong views on politics and religious extremism through 'The Daily Panic' handle was stabbed multiple times in the neck and chest.
