Govt sets max retail price for staple food

Government on Wednesday announced the maximum retail price of staple food imported by State Trade Organisation (STO).

Economic ministry in a statement revealed that the maximum retail prices of staple food imported to the country by STO were reduced following the price cut implemented on April 23.

The control prices were announced for three different zones and were effective immediately. Retailing any of the following food above control price is illegal.

Zone One (Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal and Shaviyani Atoll)

  • Controlled price of standard rice per kilo : MVR 7.78
  • Controlled price of standard sugar per kilo : MVR 7.82
  • Controlled price of standard flour per kilo : MVR 6.28

Zone Two (Noonu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaal, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu and Thaa Atoll)

  • Controlled price of standard rice per kilo : MVR 7.58
  • Controlled price of standard sugar per kilo : MVR 7.62
  • Controlled price of standard flour per kilo : MVR 6.08

Zone Three (Laamu, Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal, Nyaviyani and Seenu Atoll)

  • Controlled price of standard rice per kilo : MVR 7.97
  • Controlled price of standard sugar per kilo : MVR 8.01
  • Controlled price of standard flour per kilo : MVR 6.47
