Cargo ship, landing craft runs aground

A cargo ship and landing craft have run aground in the Maldives.

The landing craft, belonging to State Trade Organisation (STO) ran aground in the wee hours of Monday.

Coastguard spokesperson revealed that the landing craft carried 2,000 sacks of staple goods when it ran aground near Huvafen Fushi resort, adding that the cargo was not damaged during the incident.

STO tugboat is currently working at the site to salvage the landing craft.

On Sunday, a cargo ship named “Dhiraasa” had also run aground in the west of Kaafu Atoll Thilafushi.

There were two locals and two expats aboard the cargo ship, all four were found safe.

The 80-feet-long carrier was salvaged by the diving team of Maldivian Coast Guard.
