UK warns possible terror attacks in Maldives

United Kingdom (UK) has warned their citizens of possible terrorist attacks in the Maldives.

The government of UK, via a travel advisory, warned their citizens of heightened threat of terrorist attacks in places frequented by foreign travellers which includes tourists and expats. UK further advised their citizens to be vigilant at the time of travel.

According to the travel advisory, the threat of terrorist attacks is sparked by motivation from the conflict in Iraq and Syria that are globally against UK interests.

The advisory further added that UK health authorities have classified Maldives as having a moderate risk of Zika virus transmission in reference to reports of the virus in the last six months. UK government also expressed concern of Maldives failing to deliver appropriate health care and treatment to the ill.

The government of Australia have also released an alert on possible terrorist attacks in the Maldives.

National Counterterrorism Centre of Maldives have reported on the matter, commenting that the centre is currently establishing policies to end the speculations.
