1000 flats from Hulhumale' for Civil Servants

Housing Ministry on Thursday has announced that a total of 1000 housing units from the planned 7000 units under phase two of Hulhumale' development will be granted to Civil Servants employed under government entities.

Speaking at a press conference held the Ministry of Housing and Development, Minister Muizzu had pointed the main necessity of all government employed officials is the provision of sheltering or abodes; which under President Abdulla Yameen government is being actively dealt with.

Housing Minister confirmed of a scheme put in place allowing Civil Servant officers to settle a small payment for the apartments they receive.

Although housing unit finalists would be announced by April 2018, the construction of the entire project would not be completed by then as per Housing Minister.

"We are not evaluating and attesting the winning criteria based on the registered island; whether they are Male' citizens or from other atolls. The only criteria should be that they have to be employed as a Civil Servant. Distributing 1000 flats to the Civil Servants mean a total of 26% from the work force will be receiving abodes, this is a significant amount" Muizzu noted during Thursday press conference.

Managerial and skilled employee category would be further assessed on duration of employment with importance given to educational qualification while administrative level staffs would be assessed for the same two categories. However for administrative level staffs, primary assessment would be made on duration of employment.

Support service staffs would not be assessed on educational qualification rather on duration of employment would be considered. In addition to this, employee family strength as well as families with special needs members would be considered a priority.

Housing Minister stated application forms will be distributed to all government institutions sometime today and submit period will commence on November 1. The application form applying duration would span til January 15, 2018. Following this a report should be compiled after validating the corresponding details on the forms within another 15 day duration by the government entities to Housing Ministry.

Post this living standard assessment would commence which would be completed by March. Housing Minister assured the final list of Civil Servants receiving the flats will be announced by March 31, 2018.

Although housing unit finalists would be announced by April 2018, the construction of the entire project would not be completed by then as per Housing Minister.
