No links between separate assaults, 2 minors questioned

Maldives Police Service confirms there were no connections between Thaajuddin School assault and Dharumavantha student getting attacked - but a series of unprecedented attacks.

Following the assault of a Thaajuddin School student on Tuesday and a Dharmavantha School student getting attacked with a sharp implement a day after at Lily Magu near Aminiyya and CHSE vicinity, Police claims two minors had been brought in for questioning.

During a press conference held by Ministry of Education on Thursday, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan confirmed that a 14 year old minor was brought in for questioning over Thaajuddin School case, but was later on released post interrogation. Another minor of 15 years was brought under police custody regarding the stabbing of Dharumavantha School student on Wednesday.

The 15 year old minor, believed to be a suspect of the case is currently under a 10 day remand.

Shifan confirmed that the assault at Thaajuddin School was a heated argument taking a bad turn between a few students while the Dharumavantha student's stabbing is slightly complicated than what appears. Police had refrained from disclosing further details about the second case.

Police had condemned the act of misusing pictures and content on social media to incite hatred among public by misleading them about the actual details of the event.

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham asserted that the ministry is working to increase the security and safety of school premises.

Furthermore Maldives Police Service confirmed they have placed security details on 23 academic institutes including pre-schools in capital city Male'.
