State revenue registers at MVR 1.3 bil; tax authority

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) - the state's taxation body - on Monday revealed that the government had garnered MVR 1.3 billion in revenues last month.

The tax authority had collected USD 54 million during the month of February which is a 19.4% increase compared to 2017's same month.

MIRA confirmed the increase in state revenue is mainly contributed by the hike in tourist visits which rose by 13.6% in February.

MIRA collected MVR 77.35 million in Green Tax for the state while ADC collections in February reached MVR 65.61 million and the airport service-charge collections rose to MVR 65.58 million.

While the state revenue's 63.7% is contributed by GST, Business Profit Tax (BPT) collections registered at 9.8% making it the second highest income generating option for the government.

MIRA collected MVR 77.35 million in Green Tax for the state while ADC collections in February reached MVR 65.61 million and the airport service-charge collections rose to MVR 65.58 million.
