Trial of Judicial Administrator cancelled by court

The trial of Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed who was arrested by authorities under state of emergency has been cancelled following shortly after it was declared to proceed in discretion by Criminal Court.

Judicial administrator Saeed who was arrested along with Supreme Court chief justice Abdulla Saeed and the court's judge Ali Hameed, was expected to appear in Criminal Court at 13:00hrs on Monday for his trial.

Criminal Court had not disclosed the reason for declaring judicial administrator's trial to proceed discreetly.

Conventionally cases proceed in discretion upon prior request from Prosecutor General or if the nature of the trial could compromise the national security.

Hassan Saeed is tried by state for evading authorities. Immediately after the February 1 top-court order police had accessed the residence of judicial administrator in hopes of finding him, however he was not present.

Shortly after a manhunt on Saeed was announced but he had not turned himself in despite authority attempts of finding him.

Furthermore the state is alleging him for accepting bribe to attempt a coup d'etat against incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's regime. Police had claimed they have uncovered substantial evidence to back this allegation however the case had not been concluded and neither has it proceeded for prosecution.

The presidential decreed state of emergency on February 5 resulted in the arrest of the former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as well - who the state is alleging to have masterminded the plot to overthrow the incumbent government.
