Gayoom, Chief Justice remand hearing on Wed

Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is expected to appear at court on Wednesday at 12:00hrs for his remand hearing.

Apart from the former head of state, the currently jailed chief justice Abdulla Saeed as well as the recently terminated police commissioner Ahmed Areef will summon at the court for their remand hearing at the same time as well.

Both Gayoom and chief justice Saeed were summoned to court on Tuesday however their hearings were cancelled after making them wait for nearly six hours at the premises.

Other prominent figures who will be making appearance at Criminal Court for remand hearing on their cases will include judicial administrator Hassan Saeed, south-Machhangolhi MP Abdulla Sinan, business tycoon Gasim Ibrahim's son Ibrahim Siyad as well as the arbitrarily detained Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

All four are expected to appear at the court at 12:00hrs on Wednesday.

Meanwhile prosecutor general's office had pressed terrorism charges against former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, chief justice Abdulla Saeed as well as Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed.

Three defected lawmakers including Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Abdulla Sinan and Dhan'gethi MP Ilham Ahmed as well as deputy leader of Jumhoory Party Abdulla Riyaz are also tried for alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the government.

While former police commissioner Areef is also alleged for his involvement in the attempted usurp against state government the son-in-law of former president Gayoom, Ahmed Nadheem is also prosecuted for similar charges.

State has alleged judicial administrator of accepting bribe while Ibrahim Siyad is pressed charge for grafting.
