Prison death toll sparks survey by opposition

Leading opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has claimed to commence a special research to identify and assess factors leading towards the demise of prisoners inside local penitentiaries; as recent death-toll of prisoners mount.

Male' City deputy mayor and MDP Rights Committee member Shamaau Shareef stressed on recent prison deaths, adding the demise of several youths inside prisons indicate irresponsibility from Corrections [Maldives Corrections Service].

The opposition voiced in their concern amid tension as a 30 year old prisoner died under abrupt circumstances on last Friday.

Shareef furthermore added the findings of their survey will be reflected on the party's presidential campaign manifesto as solutions. Additionally MDP will be addressing the issues they discover to relevant government bodies for counter-action.
