Ruling party holds council with Pres Yameen amid complains

Current ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held a council meeting on Wednesday evening amid mounting complaints.

The sitting president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who was defeated on Sunday's presidential polls had also participated in the meeting.

Though the details were not disclosed some of the ruling party's council members stated the party members had discussed regarding the abrupt call for a congress slated for Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile several members of the party had complained regarding the presidential elections results at EC and requested from the electoral watchdog to delay announcing final results until the last day of the mandated seven-day period.

In response to the complains Maldives electoral watchdog's president Ahmed Shareef claimed the final results will not be delayed beyond the legally mandated period.

In the meantime Maldives military together with the police late Wednesday vowed to protect the will of the people amid reports that the ruling party was looking to annul Sunday's presidential elections which it comprehensively lost to the opposition alliance.
