Govt asks SBI to fund stalled resort projects

Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed has begun discussions with State Bank of India (SBI) to seek funds for the completion of unfinished resorts.

The discussion was attended by senior posts of the Tourism Ministry and SBI.

The Indian government has recently assured special financial assistance and credit facilities to the Maldives. India will provide a financial assistance of USD1.4 billion to the Maldives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's recent visit to India.

140 resorts are currently being operated in the Maldives, according to Tourism Ministry statistics. 12 hotels, 508 guesthouses and 148 safaris are also in operation. 308 travel agencies and 272 dive schools are registered in the Maldives.
