Police seek prosecution for abduction of minor

Maldives Police Service have revealed that the case of attempting to abduct a minor has been forwarded to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Earlier in March, eyewitnesses saw three men leaving Maamendhoo island with a 16 year old girl, who is reported to be the younger sibling of 19-year Aminath Shima who recently disappeared at sea under suspicious circumstances. Eyewitnesses who saw the men leave with Shima's sister said the men had their faces covered when they departed from the island. The men were intercepted by the police at sea, while en-route to an unknown destination in a dinghy boat. The men, who were being held in remand was recently released under special conditions.

The police on Monday said the case has been concluded and that prosecution is now being sought.
