An iftar was hosted in honor of Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid by Grand Mufti and Head of the Muslim Community in Romania Mufti Iusuf Muurath.
The banquet was held at Hunchiar – Carol I Mosque in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania on Sunday. State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel also attended the function.
The Foreign Minister departed to Romania on May 9 on the invitation of his Romanian counterpart, Teodor Melescanu.
Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Friday met with Romania’s Vice Prime Minister of Strategic Partnership Implementation Ana Birchall. During the meeting, Minister Shahid expressed the country’s interest in promoting Maldivian fish products in the European market.
The Minister also discussed regarding bringing in European investments to the Maldives, and decreasing the 24% duty currently imposed on Maldivian fish products, in addition to issuing a more liberal visa policy for Maldivians traveling to Europe.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union is currently held by Romania.
