Parliament to inquire regarding child missing from state care

The parliament's Human Rights and Gender committee will be looking into the case of the 14 year old boy who went missing while under state care.

Shaim Abdulla went missing on Tuesday morning while he was at the 'Kudakudhinge Hiyaa' orphanage in Villimale' while undergoing an assessment at the center.. Gender Ministry revealed the boy was rescued from a criminal environment and has not yet been registered at the center.

While the boy has been missing for six days, the initial announcement to locate the boy did not reveal the boy was under state care. The revelation came to light when a court order issued by the Juvenile Court on Sunday morning stated that the boy was under state care at Villimale' orphanage when he ran way from the center at around 9.30 am on Tuesday.

Gender has since admitted that the boy was under their care after they came under fire following the revelation, with journalists inquiring regarding the incident. The police, who had not revealed any details of the missing boy earlier also spoke on the case, revealing that three homes were searched in an effort to locate the boy, and that CCTV footage are being checked.

The parliament committee meeting to probe the matter has been scheduled for 12:00pm on Monday.
