A large amount of seized drugs were disposed of on Wednesday.
Vice President Faisal Naseem, Home Minister Imran Abdulla and Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed took part in the event held in Dhoonidhoo to dispose the drugs.
The drugs were confiscated by the police between January 2014 and June 2019 over 3165 separate investigations. The police estimates that the 419 kg of drugs have a street value of over MVR 414 million.
Speaking to the press, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said the police aims to dispose of confiscated drugs within a month of concluding investigations. This does not include the 8 grams of samples retained until the court cases are concluded.
