Parliament approves appointment of additional non-resident ambassadors

The parliament has approved to appoint 12 Maldivian ambassadors as non-resident ambassadors to additional countries.

During Wednesday's sitting, the parliament approved to appoint the current ambassadors as non-resident ambassadors with 8 out of the 12 current ambassadors receiving the approval of all 76 members who participated in the vote. The remaining ambassadors each received 75 votes.

Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Umar Abdul Razzaq was appointed as non-resident ambassador to Seychelles, Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan while Ambassador to India Aishath Mohamed Didi was appointed as the non-resident ambassador to Bhutan and Afghanistan.

Ambassador to Malaysia Visham Ali was appointed as the non-resident ambassador to Brunei, and Indonesia and Ambassador to Singapore Dr. Abdulla Mausoom became the non resident ambassador to Australia and New Zealand. Ambassador to Japan Ibrahim Uwaish will be the non resident ambassador to North and South Korea.

Furthermore, Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Haleem will also be the non-resident ambassador to Kuwait and Jordan. UAE Ambassador Dr. Hussain Niyaz will be the non-resident ambassador to Oman and Bahrain.

Maldivian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Dr. Farhanaz Faisal was appointed as the non-resident ambassador to Iceland, France and Spain while Ambassador to Germany Ahmed Latheef becomes non-resident ambassador to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

The Maldivian ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium Hassan Solih will also act as the non-resident ambassador to Netherlands, Luxembourg. Additionally, the Ambassador to the United States Thilmeeza Hussain will be the non-resident ambassador to Canada.
