Speakers of South Asian parliaments begin arriving for Speakers' Summit

Parliament Speakers and senior officials of the Parliaments of South Asian countries have started arriving in Maldives for the 4th South Asian Speakers' Summit on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

To participate in the South Asian Speakers Summit Speaker of Afghanistan Parliament Rahmani Raheem, Speaker of Lower House of Indian Parliament Lok Sabah Om Birla and the Deputy Chairman of the parliament Harivansh arrived in Maldives on Saturday morning, to participate in the summit scheduled to begin on Sunday.

Also taking part in the summit are Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Bhutan Parliament Speaker Wangchuk Namgyel, Pakistan Parliament Speaker, Qasim Khan Suri; and Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya. They will also be arriving in Maldives ahead of the summit.

The two-day summit being held in Maldives Parliament is the 4th South Asian Speakers Summit. This is the first time the summit is being held in Maldives. Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed will be representing the Maldives Parliament in the summit.
