Dismissal of CSC VP forwarded to committee

The proposed dismissal of Civil Service Commission (CSC)'s Vice President Shaheed Mohamed has been forwarded to the Parliament committee on Independent Institutions.

During Wednesday's Parliament sitting, Speaker and Former President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed announced that the Commission of Independent Institutions had assumed the responsibility of overseeing Shaheed's dismissal and the case has thus been forwarded to the committee.

According to parliament regulations, if any committee wishes to investigate any senior members of an entity, it must be informed to the Speaker via a letter. Before the issue is forwarded to the committee, the parliament must be informed by the secretariat.

It has been reported that a request was made to the committee to dismiss Shaheed over allegations that he had violated the rights of several civil servants. A similar request was previously made at the committee by Baarashu MP Ahmed Abdulla.

Shaheed was appointed as a member of CSC in 2015 during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's tenure. He was appointed as the commission's Vice President in 2017. He worked as a Director General at the Health Ministry before he became a CSC member.
