Workshop for training media officers to be commenced

Shaheeb Media prepares to conduct a workshop on training media officers. The Media is owned by Mohamed Shaheeb who is a prominent veteran journalist and former President of Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives.

The programme is targeted to media officers working in various institutions and offices; both in the government and private sector. In addition, the opportunity is open for those who are interested to become media officers. The workshop is to be commenced from 23 to 29 of this month.

The CEO of Shaheeb Media, Mohamed Shaheeb stated that this is the first such a programme is to be conducted in the Maldives. It covers substantial contents such as identifying news, news writing, responsibilities of media officers, and what it takes to be a successful media officer.

Moreover, the information will be provided to the participants on the importance of working with media, the steps that shall be taken to realize an office vision, steps to be taken in a situation of media dispute, providing information to the media, and the importance of working closely with the media.

"Almost all the offices and companies have media officers however, most of them are not trained in this field and neither do they have any such experience. Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will gain ample knowledge as well as it will enable them to enhance the vision of the organization, said the former President of Broadcasting Commission, and previous editor of Haveeru Online news and the magazine Huvaas.

Shaheeb said that this will be a valuable opportunity for those who are interested to become media officers.

In this workshop, the sessions will be conducted by experienced journalists and national award winners. They include Avas online’s Chief Editor, Adam Haleem (Mundoo), and One Online’s CEO and Editor Sinan Ali in addition to Shaheeb. Furthermore, a special lecture on freedom of the media and the right to seek and obtain information will be delivered by MP Ali Waheed of Kendhoo constituency.

The workshop will be carried on for a week from 20:30 to 23:00 hrs, at Ahmadiyya International School for a fee of MVR 2500.

Shaheeb Media has been conducting journalism training since 2010. Earlier it had conducted numerous courses in Male’, Addu and Kulhudhuffushi.
