Parliament approves members for Privatisation Board

The Parliament on Monday gave their approval for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's seven nominations for the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

During Monday's parliament sitting, seperate votes were taken on each nomination. All seven members were approved by the participating MPs.

Earlier, the parliament committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOE committee) also approved the president' recommendations. Hassan Waheed was approved as the board's President while Asim Mohamed was approved as the Vice President.

The other five members approved for PCB are Aishath Shazly, Rushaha Ahmed Shareef, Ali Shafeeu, Ali Sujau and Ahmed Shareed Yoosuf.

PCB was established under the ‘Law of Privatization, corporatization, monitoring and Evaluation of Government businesses’ to carry out privatization, corporatization, monitoring, evaluation, selling of public shares from Government companies, Government shareholding companies and commercial government businesses. All members, president and vice president of the board is decided by the President with the parliament's approval.
