Two new cases registered in Male' city

Authorities have announced two new positive cases of COVID-19 in capital Male'. With the two new cases, the total number of cases in residential areas have now climbed to 49.

Since the detection of the first case of local transmission in Male', the numbers continue to rise daily. Earlier on Monday, 15 new cases were registered. Authorities have warned that if caution is not practiced, the situation in Maldives could rapidly deteriorate.

Male' city has now been placed on a strict lockdown, and inter-island travel across Maldives have been banned. Congregational prayers have also been indefinitely suspended.
