One month old infant with COVID-19 hospitalized

A one month old baby who tested positive for COVID-19 has been admitted at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, IGMH.

The infant was hospitalized on Tuesday morning. A tweet posted by a pediatrician at IGMH, Dr. Ahmed Faisal said the baby was admitted due to high fever and dehydration.

Several children have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives. Statistics published by the Health Protection Agency, HPA show 210 children below the age of 10 have tested positive for the virus thus far. However, this is the first time a child has been admitted due to deteriorating health.

The Maldives has recorded over 4,000 cases of COVID-19 thus far. The number of active cases is 1589. While 19 COVID-19 deaths have been officially recorded to date, six people are currently receiving treatment in the ICU. Two are on ventilator support.
