COVID-19: No cases registered in the atolls for the first time in recent months

The Maldives on Sunday registered 35 new cases of COVID-19.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 1,282 samples were tested in the 24 hours leading up to 6:00 pm of Sunday, out of which 35 samples tested positive for COVID-19. All cases were identified in the capital Male’ region, and no positive cases were recorded in the atolls for the first time in recent months.

The new cases are of 27 locals and 8 foreigners, raising the total number of cases recorded in the Maldives to 10,894.

HPA also announced 59 recoveries on Sunday, increasing the total number of recoveries to 9,742. While 1,110 cases are currently active across Maldives, 35 deaths have been recorded to date, with the most recent death recorded earlier on Sunday. Cases are active in 21 islands and 20 resorts across Maldives.
