ACP Fairoosh retires from police service

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Fairoosh has retired from police service. His retirement was confirmed by Maldives Police Service.

ACP Fairoosh retired from the field after 20 years in service. He was dismissed from the police force earlier in 2017 while he was studying for his PhD in Australia. However, after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came into power, the Civil Court’s Dispute Resolution Division ordered for him to be reinstated into service.

Fairoosh’s retirement comes a few days after amendments on the Police Service Act were ratified. The new amendments allow for senior police officers to be investigated by the Police Board established under the Act.

Fairoosh temporarily headed the police force after former president Mohamed Nasheed controversially stepped down in 2012 on the back of a police mutiny.
