Shazly elected as MDP's Secretary General

Shazly Shafeeq has been elected as main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Secretary General.

The post of MDP’s Secretary General became vacant on February 11, 2020. The post was last filled by senior party member, Anas Abdul Sattar, with Afshan Latheef as his deputy. Afshan has since stepped down from her post to take up the post of the Local Government Authority’s CEO.

Shazly Shafeeq was elected as MDP’s new Secretary General during its National Assembly held Sunday night. Shazly was the only candidate who applied for the post. 90 out of 99 assembly members voted in favour of appointing her as the party's Secretary General.

Shazly has previously filled the position of MDP’s Secretary General. However, she stepped down from the post on November 18, 2014.
